Multi Stream Video window positioning

Postby jaket » 23 Jan 2013 17:46

Hello everyone
This is my first time posting on this board.

I have an .mp4 file that has 3 streams of video and 1 stream of audio in it. When I play it through VLC it plays all the video streams in separate windows in sync.

I am trying to create a batch file that positions all of those windows for me, but I can only find commands for positioning one window in VLC. I have setup a batch file that loads multiple instances of VLC and I can position those, but the sync isn't good enough, it slides out of sync after the video loops.

Is it possible to place these video windows from VLC or will I have to use something like the Devils Pie?

Thanks in advance
Sorry if this post is in the wrong place.

I'm not sure I can resolve your issue, but you describe what I'm trying to achieve and your batch file would likely resolve my issue. I am creating a video presentation that uses 3 complementary video clips synchronized to one common soundtrack. Each video is to be displayed on a separate screen. I am encoding as MPEG4 files but have three separate files (I did not know you could combine the 3 streams into 1 file).

I can get VLC to sync 2 of these videos, using the "open (advanced)" function and clicking "Show more options" which reveals the added field "Play another media synchronously". When I select the second media file, the interface again allows me to "show more options" and "play another...". I was overjoyed when I stumbled unto this, as I thought I could get the 3 clips to play; but when I tried it, only the first 2 clips will play in 2 instances of VLC (perfectly synchronized, mind you).

I can't speak to the loss of synchronization in loops, as my production doesn't loop. Perhaps you can leverage this in your batch file (which I'd love to obtain if you're willing to share). My presentation is for July 3rd, so I hope you can respond to this shortly. And if an admin can help we with the "Play another media..." that's be great, too!
