How to disable the Main Window?

How do I disable the Main Window? I prefer it the way it was before, when it was just a media player and not a media library.

the media library has always been there. If you do not like it, do not use it.

I also do not like to browser window, and prefer the last version with just the media player. I could not figure out any way to "not use it" as it shows all the time. It is too big for what I use it for. Is there any way to display the media player and not the browser window? Thanks.

Exactly. I've never seen the media library window in VLC 1; if it was always there, it was certainly hidden quite well, which I liked. Now, it's impossible to detach from the VLC controls.

Just spent 15 min playing with the prefs trying to accomplish this. Eventually I gave up and downgraded to 1.1.9. All I need is the video and the controls. VLC just pulled a Skype if you ask me.

I created an account just to pass along my displeasure at this change — like one of the posters above I intend to switch, but in my case I am testing some other video viewing applications.

I also consider the attitude evident in the post by Jean-Baptiste Kempf to be inappropriate on a forum dedicated to discussion of the software. If you do not want suggestions, say so (and in fact all the original poster said was that he was trying to get rid of it and wondered how — he, like the rest of us, assumed that this window that had "always been there" but had until now been dismissable such that it did not appear for those who didn't want it could still be dismissed). "If you don't like it, use something else" is about the worst possible response to what was at worst the mildest of criticisms.

But with Mr. Kempf's advice in mind, along with the apparent message that not only can the window not be dismissed any more, the developers are unwilling even to consider changing this behavior ... I will in fact be considering other software. Like what I assume is a majority of users, I have no desire to have a "library" open, ever; moreover, I also don't want to use software that is developed by people with that attitude.

So, Mr. Kempf, thank you for the suggestion. I will certainly take it to heart.

Cool. Oh, and especially do not look at VLC 2.0.1 that can hide it. Oh, and do not search on this forum, it is a useless feature.

I'm on 2.0.1 but can't see an option to hide the library. Any chance someone can point me in the right direction?
