Help converting DVD to MP4

I am having trouble converting DVDs to MP4. In VLC, I open the disc and select Convert/Save. I accept the defaults and enter the file name to save as. The process start and it continues to process forever. It shows it is processing a segment that is 2:09 minutes long. It finishes it and then starts again. I tried selecting only Title 1 and let it run overnight. It never finished.

My goal is to create an MP4 file from a DVD and to watch it over DLNA. I have used the Danuisoft DVD to MP4 ripper but when viewing the video on my TV through the DLNA, it is jumpy.

Any help with this is appreciated.
