Is it possible to set Deinterlace Automatic as default?

Postby BigMischa » 30 Aug 2010 19:25

Hello,

I often use VLC to watch DVDs, and most of the time the picture is interlaced, so i activate the deinterlace function (right click on the screen, Video --> deinterlace --> automatic). Is there a way to set this on default, so I don't have to activate it everytime i restart VLC?

Thanks in advance.

http://wiki.videolan.org/WindowsFAQ-1.1 ... _method.3F

but you shouldn't need to use deinterlace function with commercial DVD movies.

The referenced link only explains how to change the default deinterlacing method (linear, blend, etc.). The only method that I've found to set deinterlacing to automatic is to edit vlcrc and uncomment the deinterlace line (remove the preceding #) and set it to -1. In full, the line should be:

deinterlace=-1

It shouldn't require manual editing. Why isn't it the default anyway? Even the documentation recommends the automatic setting.

thanks for your answer, i will try this.
i think setting a deinterlace-method as default should at least be an advanced-option.

Set Deinterlace ON for a certain file extension?

Postby Robert040 » 30 Dec 2012 19:46

Hi,

I do view windows media center TV recordings with VLC but I'm disapointed by the VLC de-interlace settings. Every next recording I open or drag-drop onto VLC it 'forgets' the settings. The manual settings to set it correctly is tedious and frustrating.

For me, all files with .dvr-ms and .wtv file extensions are always interlaced. Without de-interlacing, picture movements (panning) do look terrible.

Question: Is it possible to configure VLC to ALWAYS use deinterlacing (with a certain mode) for the .dvr-ms and .wtv file extensions ?

I already found the answer: Via the tools-preferences you can enable deinterlacing activation and mode which is saved.
It doesn't do it for certain file extension though (but for all), but it does solve my usability issue.
