thx very much for your reply.

i still have two answers:
1.
i have downloaded the document about how to build vlc in cygwin. but i found that there are some restrictions in that document ,for example "do not select any c compilers other than the ones shown in the appendix to the document. "
but when i installed the cygwin, i selected installing all of the components, does that matter ?

2.
how to build with ffmpeg library support?

selecting other compilers/build tools might be incompatible with the precompiled libraries which you need to download in order to compile VLC. (ffmpeg is in this contrib package)

A new contrib build system (like the one currently available for Mac OS X or BeOS) is in the works for windows ... which will hopefully make it easier to compile VLC for windows. (it should be finished soon ... 1 or 2 weeks i guess)

what's the version of cygwin in the <cygwincompileenvironmentrevB>.
some of the versions of the packets which i use are different from the corresponding versions in that notebook, is that make some differences a lot?

i run the get_svn.bat with only one line of "C:Program Files\Subversion\bin\svn" co svn://svn.videolan.org/vlc/trunk vlc-trunk" in it by double clicking the icon of get_svn.
but there was no file folder with the name of "vlc-trunk" in it ,why?

is it necessary for my building?

It's very necessary because it contains the source code of VLC.
You can get the sources code using SVN (that gives you the latest) or using a release (0.8.2 currently) just adapt and go where you have extracted the sources instead of vlc-trunk when needed.

thx,
during my building ,i used vlc-0.8.2 , released from vlc-0.8.2.tar.bz2 ,instead of vlc-trunk.
in that case i don't have to run get_svn.bat, so i just run the following commands:
$cd vlc-0.8.2
$../config_setup

it stops with the following error information:

Administrator@zhangww ~/vlc-0.8.2
$ ../config_setup

do you know why?
