When you record a video you are playing with VLC player, where does the recording go?

Thanks

I have just tested it and found the recorded file "vlc-record-2012-12-16-19h45m26s-Video.avi-.avi" in Documents\Films\ in my profile in Windows. So try to search for "vlc-record" in your system if you do not know where it is.
There is a setting for this in VLC preferences:
Tools > Preferences > ( Show settings - All ) > Input / Codecs: Record directory or filename [ ]

I believe the default location is in %userprofile%\Videos - AKA "My Videos". The full path would be e.g. (on Win Vista/7/8):
C:\Users\[USERNAME]\Videos

Where [USERNAME] is your username.

If it's not there then search for "vlc-record" like mederi says.
