Quadruple click necessary to navigate folders in My Music

Am I doing something wrong because I seem to need to double click on folders in My Music, then double click again to open the folder, effectively a quadruple click.

Another thing is that when I do this, the currently-playing track stops when I go to navigate to another folder. Is there any way to change both of these behaviours? My music is sorted mostly by directory/filename so I can't use iTunes (at least not until I tackle the gargantuan task of tidying all my ID3 tags, but until then, a simple directory browser/player is what I want. But the method of browsing my folders in VLC is driving me nuts.
