VOD on a password protected website

I am having a problem streaming from my Apache server that is password protected. I am using VLC for windows, and have tried http://x.x.x.x/movies/movie.mpg/user=user&password=pass
but that does not seem to work either. Thnx in advance!

that should only work on website using basic autehtification, and no encryption

okay I'll give it another shot and do some variations. And Authentication Type is set to Basic.

Ok i tried a test with a different passworded area and it worked. are there any characters that cannot be used in a url say a #?

ok figured it out, but i get no video and the player interface (windows) keeps switching the slider on and off really fast.
