No voice track at all - just background music

Postby runbei » 26 Oct 2012 03:39

I'm using VLC 2.0.3. Windows XP Pro SP3, BioStar motherboard TA790GX A2+, using onboard Realtek audio.

When I play commercial DVDs, I'm getting no voice track at all - only the background music plays. This problem occurs in Both Windows XP Pro and Linux Mint. Haven't change anything in hardware setup. The problem also occurs in other media players, e.g., Potplayer.

Audio is fine in the Realtek setup utility - loud and clear. But in all Windows applications volume is very low (e.g., Skype). Only in VLC is there no voice audio at all.

In VLC I've tried setting different audio channel, track, device. I've updated drivers, tried every possible setting in Audio Settings and Devices, and every option in Realtek HD Audio Manager - no joy. Hoping someone can help.

George

If all Windows applications are affected by sound problems then it might be some configuration mess up. Make sure you have the latest up to date drivers for all of your hardware and also the latest DirectX runtimes, then check your channels with some test files such as these ones:

Thanks lotesdelere. I decided to take the easy way out: bought a USB headset and am enjoying good sound with no hassles. (Logitech H530)

Hey, I found --a-- solution!

In your Realtek Audio Manager software, go to the sound effects tab. Find the tick box labeled "Loudness Equalization". Make sure it is checked.

Boom!

Also this takes care of the issue that hate:

Super quiet speech in a movie.... when.... BAM! Soundtrack kicks in and death comes upon a one mile radius. No more! It equalizes the loudness. Unbelievable!
