extended desktop

Postby built4action » 18 Oct 2012 23:34

Hi all,
new to the forums, lots of good info here! I have a strange video scaling problem I hope you can help me with. Here's my setup:

Dell Laptop outputs to my HDTV via intel WiDi. I want to play music, have the controls on the laptop screen while the visualization plays fullscreen on the TV.

I searched the forums and got everything set up the way I want it, but there is one little bug I can't work out. When the player advances tracks, it automatically starts the visualization fullscreen, but it is off-center (like the video output is too big, so I'm seeing about 2/3 of the upper left of the visualization). But, if I manually go out of full screen, then manually back into fullscreen, it centers the video properly! It works correctly for the rest of the current track, then reverts to the offcenter view once the next track starts.

I have played a little with trying to force different aspect ratios, but it doesn't seem to resolve the problem.

Any ideas?
Thanks,
-at

Did you try to de-embed the video from the interface?

Yup, that's how I got the controls to stay on the laptop screen while the visualization plays on the TV.

Try changing output module in prefs.

Did that. output module = directx, default display = \\DISPLAY2

Like I said, the dual-display & control functionality is working like I want it, it's just the scaling that gets wacky.

Deactivate overlay or use OpenGL.

Thanks for the assistance JBK.

Deactivating overlay does not seem to affect this behavior.

How do I set \\DISPLAY2 as the default with OpenGL?

Edited to add: I have also tried wallpaper mode, same behavior.

it seems like messing around with the Goom display output settings makes some difference. My TV is at 1366x768, but if set goom to match that output I just get a garbled screen, same at 683x384.

Has anyone found a resolution to this yet??? I'm giving a presentation in 3 days and REALLY need to be able to get this issue resolved:

"When the player advances tracks, it automatically starts the visualization fullscreen, but it is off-center (like the video output is too big, so I'm seeing about 2/3 of the upper left of the visualization). But, if I manually go out of full screen, then manually back into fullscreen, it centers the video properly! It works correctly for the rest of the current track, then reverts to the offcenter view once the next track starts."

I have already tried all of the suggestions in this post, and have not been able to get this fixed yet.... I'm running VLC v2.0.7

PLEASE HELP!!!! Thanks a lot!!

Also, any luck with figuring out how to set \\DISPLAY2 as the default with OpenGL??

Thanks!
