Open (advanced) - Error: Your input can't be opened

Postby orange2 » 12 Oct 2012 03:06

Whenever I try to use the "Open (advanced) ..." feature of the VLC media player to "Play" a file on my computer, I get the following error message:
Your input can't be opened:
VLC is unable to open the MRL ''. Check the log for details.
''. Check the log for details.
This feature used to work in the past, but I think it stopped working on my system as of version 2.x
It should be noted that I can "Play" the files via Media>Open File... or via Media>Open Folder ..., but NOT via Open (advanced) ...
I would appreciate any help to get the "Open (advanced) ..." feature to work properly, as it is a more convenient way to play files.

Thanks in advance.

I reset the preferences as suggested.
I restarted the media played, but I'm still getting the same error as described above.

Is there anything else I can try?

Well, trying to open a null item is never going to work. Looks like a UI bug to me. Might be fixed in newer versions.

Ok. Thanks Remi.
Reported it as a possible bug. I'll and keep my eyes open for a fix in a newer version.
Will try to report here if/when a fix has been implemented.

Back in December, one of the techs testing the bug reported that " I cannot reproduce in any way, on XP and 7."

I'm currently using VLC version 2.0.5 Twoflower.
Has anyone else run into the bug I described in the first post?
If you did, were you able to find a solution?
Thanks in advance
