VLC unable to open MLR?

Postby newbie23 » 07 Oct 2012 03:34

Hi, I am new to this site and new to using VLC in general. I am attempting to listen to audio that is on an XSPF file and cannot seem to open my files on VLC. I have disabled my firewalls and that has not worked. Below are the messages I have received:

"File reading failed:
VLC could not open the file "\\ausps.org\data\users\apd\ap7153\Desktop\122681056.wav". (%m)
Your input can't be opened:
VLC is unable to open the MRL 'file://ausps.org/data/users/apd/ap7153/Desktop/122681056.wav'. Check the log for details."

Can anyone please help me? I would be very grateful!
Thank you!!!

file://ausps.org/data/users/apd/ap7153/Desktop/122681056.wav literally searches for a file on your computer with the path /ausps.org/data/users/apd/ap7153/Desktop/122681056.wav (which probably doesn't exist).

Therefore, your MRLs that you are trying to access are incorrect. (At least those MRLs in the XSPF are bad.)

Is there a computer called "ausps.org" on your local network? Are you able to access \\ausps.org\data\users\apd\ap7153\Desktop\122681056.wav from the file explorer at all?

Without logs, nobody can tell you what's wrong.

I'm sorry, as previously stated I am completely new to this so I am unsure how I even find any logs.

These files were saved from a disc onto my computer, (which will let me open the files but will not read them on any program I have on my computer). I have tried to open the disc itself onto VLC also and it still reads the MLR as unable to open. When I look at the properties of the file path it does not show the ausps.org either. Do I need to change this somehow?

Start VLC, Tools→Messages, set verbosity to 2, open XSPF file, then pastebin the resulting log.

The specified file does not exist. It's as simple as that.
