Fullscreen Controls in 2.0.1

Postby Valles240 » 21 Mar 2012 04:33

Hello all,

Longtime user of VLC here but it's my first time on the forum as I've never had any issues so far (and the one I'm experiencing now is extremely minor, and not really an issue at all, more of a question/comment..). So I updated to 2.0.1 today on my MacBook Pro (i7 2.66GHz) running Lion (10.7.2), and when playing videos in fullscreen (as I always do) I noticed that when adjusting the volume or seeking through the video those handy little vertical and horizontal bars, respectively, are no longer there. All I see is the percentage or the time in the upper right hand corner. Is there (or will there be) some kind of option to toggle those bars, because it's a really nice visual clue to gauge your position at a glance. Also, I should note that I have a wireless mouse and it's the same when controlling with both the mouse and the trackpad. Thanks in advance,

-Alex

Bumping for a response.. And here are a couple other unrelated simple issues that I didn't see any existing threads on and would just like a quick response to: I've noticed that the time in the lower right hand corner switched from showing the time in the video (which is quite useful if you'd like to mark your place or remember a specific part at a glance) to showing how much time remains. Is there, or will there be some way to switch this? Also, is there a way to make it so that when your video ends, the VLC playlist window doesn't show up, like it used to? I've reverted to 1.1.12 for the time being until these minor details get sorted out, because although small, they do affect the intuitiveness and ease of use of your awesome media player! Thanks.

Just click the time in the corner and it toggles just like in pre-2.0 versions.

In prefereces, deselect "Show video within the main window".

The click the playlist button (3 stacked lines) and the window will collapse to just a controller. This way you don't see the playlist and works similar to pre-2.0 versions.

I inquired myself about the audio/video bars on a related bug report, but never heard back. I actually occasionally see a flicker of the volume bar if I change the volume quickly with the keyboard.

Wow I can't believe I never even knew about the click to toggle time feature.. thanks for cluing me in! And thanks for the info on how to collapse the playlist window to a controller.. it was so simple (doh!), I can't believe I didn't try that!

But yeah the A/V bars were quite useful, and I'm surprised there isn't an option to toggle those, as I'm sure many people would find them helpful.. Here's to hoping that gets incorporated into the next update!

Ridiculous.
What is? That the seeking and volume control bars haven't yet been integrated into 2.0? I'm sure they will be.. anyway, thanks for the constructive feedback!

Go to Tools > Preferences > set Show Settings to All. Then in Interface > Control Interfaces, tick the box 'Mouse gestures control interface'. Got lucky finding this to revert back to normal controls in full screen. Hope this is relevant to the question because I was in a hurry to let people know where to go in latest VLC versions.

I just updated to the latest version so I could try this out, and sure enough it was worth it! Thank you!! Yes this is the exact fix to the issue I was talking about. Strange that this wasn't enabled by default in post-2.0 versions... Oh well, at least I can finally stick with the latest versions now! :D
