Deleting the config helped only for a short time.
It seems to be an issue when using multiple instances of VLC. But I don't want to give up using multiple instances ...
Let me explan the way I use VLC:
I have two PC's. One is running 24/7 (therefore it's built to save energy, making it unsuitable for many applications such as video editing). On this 24/7 PC, I have installed the famous video recorder software VDR. And it' s headless (i.e. no monior connected), just a video and file server. The other one is my desktop PC. I use VLC mainly for watching recorded TV shows.
Let's say I am watching a TV show recorded the previous day. At the same time, I am recording a live show of which I know it's overdrawn often. Because of the known overdrawing, I have set the VDR timer to end 2 hours later than stated in the EPG.
In order to aviod wasting too much disk space, I want to check regularly if the recording show has ended. As the VDR-PC is headless, I can only use my desktop PC to peek in the latest VDR file chunk.
As I don't want to lose the position of the currently watched show, I open a second VLC instance for this peek action, and then close it.
This means, I always close the instances in reverse order I opened them. And except moving windows to a different position, I don't change any settings. When I change settings, I ensure I only have one instance open.
After opening and closing the second (and rarely third) instance, the playlist window layout is back on default. Even if I have the first instance (with still correct layout) open, close this one as last one and open VLC again, my layout has gone.
As long as I only use one instance, everything seems to work fine.
Thanks and Regards,
Markus
