how to compare VLC settings causing blue tint?

Postby draca » 10 Sep 2012 02:59

On one computer VLC 1.1.13 plays all videos with a blue tint (everybody looks like a smurf). On a different computer, the same version of VLC plays all videos with no tint at all. SAME EXACT HARDWARE, SAME OPERATING SYSTEM (Ubuntu Linux 10.04). (actually there's only one computer and I use 2 different live usb thumbdrives I boot from)

How can I troubleshoot by comparing the settings between the 2 VLC installations and backend libraries?

Change the video output in preferences.

Changing the output from "default" to "X11 video (XCB)" does fix the problem, but I understand this results in a higher CPU load. Right?

also I've narrowed down the problem: VLC 1.1.13 displays the blue hue when output is default, but vlc 1.0.6 does not have the blue hue with the default output.

So the question becomes how can I get rid of the blue hue with the default output in 1.1.13, the way it is in 1.0.6?

You probably cannot. Use a more recent version of ubuntu.
