How to record video using VLC through Hauppage USB Live 2 ?

Postby imperialguy » 21 Jun 2011 01:24

I have a Hauppage USB Live 2 video capture device installed on a machine with Windows 7 OS. The capture device is connected to a Q-See QSICC2PK video camera through a composite cable. So, the source for the USB Live 2 capture device is Composite.

The device works absolutely fine when I use the WinTV 7 software that comes with it. But, I could not record using VLC Media Player 1.1.9. I also tried using it with vlc 0.8.6c, with no luck.

The following screen shot shows the proof that WinTV 7 software is able to capture from the USB Live 2 device:

The following are my settings in the WinTV 7 software:

And, finally this is what I did in VLC to record it:

Despite doing all the above, VLC still cannot record it. Any thoughts/ideas will be greatly appreciated.

Open Tools -> Messages (set Verbosity to 2) before you start capturing, the message dialog should complain when operation fails.

@VLC_help

Bumped the verbosity level to 2. Below is the messages log I received in the messages dialog box when trying to use the device (wrapped them in code tag to save screen space). Please take a look and let me know what am I doing wrong.

Did you ever find a solution to this? I use USB Live 2 to view CCTV camera streams and it would be great to only need to use VLC as hauppaug is rediculous regarding their software and EVEN IF you purchased the device if you lose your CD they won't do anything for you, they will make you buy another one....so, not trying to buy it again since i can't find my CD

Thanks!

By doing that, you can get Preview only!!!

To record, click Arrow close to Play button, a menu list will be dropped down then select Convert, a option dialog will appear.

At Destination file: option, select location and output video file as you want. Under Settings group, you can select desired codec, most popular one should be H264 + MP3. You can make detailed setting by click setting button next to the X button in Settings group. Press Start button to enjoy

Hope this help someone else :)
