Humax /ts failure to play / convert in VLC ver.2.0.3

Hi All,

I'm trying to convert a .ts taken from my parents Humax FoxSat PVR. It's an 18GB file (Olympics Opening Ceremony in HD) and I want to be able to watch it from a variety of devices.

The problem is that it won't play in VLC, let alone convert to anything.

When I try to play, it displays no error message, but just sits there. The application does not hang or appear slow and the .ts file appears to be "loaded" in that anything I try to select menu options for, appear to recognise the file as available, but again fail to actually process the file.

When I try to convert it, e.g. to .mp4, I simply end up with a 1k .ps file.

I have tried this on my PC and laptop, both running Windows XP and with the same effect.

I know there was a bug (#3933) a couple of years ago, but that was on vers 1.1.1 and was quickly reported as closed.

Any thoughts or similar experiences would be gratefully received.

Can you play small file (1min or so)?
If you can't, please share the logs and the sample file.

Hmm, I just tried a 7 minute (156MB) ts file and it played and converted OK.

Am I being too impatient waiting for the big file play, or does VLC not support large files?

Can you try to see if a 2GB files works? a 4GB too and then a 8GB ?

At that size you might be struggling for system resources? I'm not knowledgable about these things but is it possible to stream a large file where it may be too big to load and play whole?

Also, almost as an aside, someone told me to rename the file extension from .ts to .mpg and it usually works, which means you might be able to try other media players...
