How do I see VLC on my tv

I have a canopus converter box and was wondering how I could use it to export stuff from VLC onto my television (so I can record it for music video making). Is there a better way to get clips onto iMovie or is it a hopeless case?

When you open the file, click "advanced output" at the bottom of the file open dialog and click settings, then just put it into a file, it can also do taht much faster then real time, use a codec compatible with iMovie and you should be good to go
