MP4 playback problem

I'm having problems playing MP4 files. VLC player doesn't play them at all, no voice or anything.. Any succestions what could cause this? Other files run normally. VLC version is 1.1.11. and I cannot upgrade because i'm working on highly secure environment... Also can't install any other software or packages..

Can you get the messages log? In the menu, go to Tools→Messages, set verbosity to 2, and try to open a MP4 file. Then copy and paste the generated log to a pastebin, like http://pastebin.com/

I have the same problem. No video stream in SOME MP4 files. Tried the above-mentioned items, no help.

MP4 files that VL do not play now could be played in the past by VL, so something in my system has changed. Don't know what.

Any ideas?

System is WinVista.

Thank you for replying. Unfortunately none of those suggestions made the video play. MOF all of the items in VLC's Video dropdown menu are grayed out.

This file played fine a couple of weeks ago. Oh well....

This, and the blit surface error, is not normal and suggests a driver issue. Make sure you are using the latest DirectX runtimes (DX9 and maybe 10 and 11 depending on your OS) and up to date graphics drivers.

Sorry, this is not a problem with my system. Videolan has been working correctly lately. Now using version 2.0.7 without problems.

Yep. Had this just happen. For no reason, mp4 videos no longer play. For years they did. This morning, they don't. Checked quite a few as well. Uninstalled .08. Reinstalled it. No luck. Went back to .07. Installed it. No luck. Did reboots. Took it real slow. I'm stumped.

I have no problems with MP4 (even 720p,x264) with portable vlc 2.0.7 x64
