VLC won't install new updates

Postby monsieurms » 12 Aug 2012 14:11

Hi...I have 2.01

I always am notified of new updates. I click to update. It downloads the file. And then crashes. I get an error message telling me to sent an error report to the developer--which doesn't work either, by the way.

Any advice on how to get the new updates to install? Thanks in advance.

I am having a problem also.

I am able to download the 2.0.2 exe file, but I have no idea where it is saved, or maybe it isn't being saved at all. I do not get the chance to specify the download folder.
My system is Windows XP Home Edition SP3.

Also I see there is a version 2.0.3 which was not offered to me as the latest version. Do I have to install 2.0.2 first ?

Thanks,
Mick Berg.

Download the full VLC installer from the official download page then reboot your computer and try to install again.

Download the full VLC installer from the official download page then reboot your computer and try to install again.
That worked, using the full installer from the hard drive, merci!
but I have no idea where it is saved, or maybe it isn't being saved at all. I do not get the chance to specify the download folder.
My system is Windows XP Home Edition SP3.
If you are using Firefox, you can click the DOWNLOADS button (or if not on your toolbar, pull down the TOOLS menu, click DOWNLOADS). When that box appears it will show vlc-2.0.3 as a download. Right click on that entry and select "open containing folder.'" It will take you to the file. If you're not using FF, perhaps Chrome or IE has something similar---I don't use them any more so I don't know. Or, you can run a search on your entire hard drive if you can't find the directory indicated.

there is absolutely no point whatsoever to even have a "out of date version, download new version" bullshit notification if the only way to successfully update is to uninstall and install the new version!

Alsao, what diference does it make to VLC where mozilla saves files to, if mozilla is not the one downloading, VLC is, and it has never, ever asked me where to save the file.
