VLC can't recognize the input's format

For questions and discussion that is NOT (I repeat NOT) specific to a certain Operating System.

VLC can't recognize the input's format

Postby satro » 14 Oct 2011 15:26

How can I repair my video?
Have recorded some files , probably transport stream format ( .ts extension ) via satro set-top box .

Video stops after few seconds without playing , or error messages.
In verbosity level 1 ( 0 was default ) , there was :
"
ts warning: lost synchro
ts warning: lost synchro
ts warning: lost synchro
ts warning: lost synchro
ts warning: lost synchro

"
and much more same lines.

The files can be played on the set-top box with no problems , even with encryption card unplugged .
I tried vlc player on both windows and linux.

Please open Tools -> Messages (set Verbosity to 2) before you start the playback and then paste the full resulting log here or on Pastebin if it's too long.

Also upload a short sample of a file to either http://streams.videolan.org/upload/ or to Multiupload.com or to EmbedUpload.com, so it will upload the file for you to several other hosts, and then post the link to the file here.

uploaded to http://www.multiupload.com/F23V5WA5KF

Sorry , it is not easy to get the debug 2 messages. Vlc player ( in this setting ) consumes all memory and runs over 3 hours. So I let it to finish unattended ( overnight ) , but when I come back to computer , the session was logged out , probably killed by linux in no free memory condition ( default setting of Ubuntu ). I tried it twice.

I will look for computer with more memory . . .

Have recorded some files , . . .
http://www.multiupload.com/E9ZMRARMG6

is song from radio station ( no video ) , but does not play ( on VLC ) too.

Debug 2 messages are similar to video files.
So I decided , that problem is not related to video , because audio-only file sucks too.

These files seem not to have a valid header. I couldn't find any player that would play them and even MediaInfo doesn't report any stream at all.

It looks like the set-top box uses unknown proprietary format inside the .ts file.

I will continue to look for my original question ( how to repair video ):
-contacting manufacturer of the set-top box for more info
-hacking the files is the last choice

I opened the file in hexadecimal viewer and found , that description from EPG is in the ( suspected ) proprietary header as plain text.
Probably the set-top box simple writes the decrypted DVB-C stream to file and the format depends from the DVB-C stream format provided by cable operator ( Satro corporation ).

I will continue to look for my original question
The old set-top-box was replaced with HDready model.
Cannot play recorded videos :-(
