Hello guys
I work for a karaoke company called the karaokebox, karaokebox.co.uk.
We provide private karaoke japanse style for English speaking clients and have 3 branches in central london. We currently have a machine that we developed in house using cold fusion and flash mx6 a few years back.
The user end is a a flash keyboard that customers use on a touch screen to search for songs on a database. the song is selected added to a que and then played in a flash player on a 2nd tv.
We currently want to build a new system hopefully using php and css with an apache mysql controller and database. i would like the player to be vlc.
Basically im looking for anyone interested and capable of doing this project obviously this is paid work so private message me if your interested.
At the moment we need to replace the machines because they don't work to well with windows 7 or later they were built with flash mx6 for xp so although coldfusion runs well the actual flash keyboard is unstable so were stuck with windows xp. the design is also quite simple as the data base is access ive been experimenting with apahce and mysql and have found using this to be superior to coldfusion access.
Basically a windows 8 keyboard is fine but the problem will be that we would have to upgrade 29 machines from windows7 to windows 8 and that might be costly if however its functionality is superior to a custom made keyboard though i would be happy to do this but would have to test it before with a custom made keyboard. what is important is the database and and how the end user interfaces with it ie how to stop and play a song add it to a que see the song history and songs that have been played previously by popularity.
Another thing that is very important is that we have a touch screen and an led tv a dual monitor setup, the touchscreen shows the database output ie the songs and artists names and the LED tv has the player so when a song is chosen it would be seen on the LED tv as opposed to the touchscreen. in the current system i used ultramon to achieve the placement of the player and keyboard in screen one and two all opened up via a batch file. again this system doenst work too great in windows 7 sometimes placing the two objects on the wrong screen possibly becuase its thrid party software and i to script out a vbl command to control it but it works great with xp.
I would also like at this time for the system to be done standalone with a local host however it would be good if server client capabilities be employed as one of the reasons for upgrading is the possibility for customers to choose songs from a website and have a personal login so that when they come to our venue they can just start singing having chosen the songs from home or work but that is not essential in the immediate future whats important is that we get a machine working in the way i described above as a standalone jukebox and any further development we can take from there.
Hope i haven't broken any forum rules here.
Cheers Donald
