Using VLC to record live audio, w/ live pause/rewind ability

Postby den0 » 11 Jul 2012 00:08

Hello,

I just figured out how to use two instances of VLC to solve my problem, but I'm wondering if there's a better way. I'm trying to record live radio broadcasts (ball games) to the PC, for later listening. But sometimes I'd like to start listening while the game is still in progress. A single instance of VLC will allow me to pause the live capture device, but in that case I don't seem to get a recording in a disk file I can play later. Or, I can have VLC stream from the capture device to a file, but then I don't seem to be able to play the file within the same session. But I found that I can start a second instance of VLC and open the output file (even though it's still being written) and it works, I can listen, pause, rew/ff. But can this be done all within a single instance?

Essentially what I'm trying to accomplish is exactly what you get with a DVR application such as Windows Media Center, namely, the ability to record, play, pause and skip around a live program all in one interface. WMC doesn't seem to allow a simple line-level audio as a source, otherwise I'd use that. Maybe other software DVRs have it??

Thanks!

Hi Is there any way other than this two instance that can allow to Rewind the live stream?

Please someone reply.I didn't get any positive search results that give any solution for rewinding the live stream.
