FFMpeg/Libav

Postby gaelsano » 05 Jul 2012 04:40

This is NOT to ignite a flame war. This is for clarification.

I heard a while back that VLC, like gstreamer, would switch to libav over ffmpeg. While MPlayer and Xine would do the opposite.

gstreamer seemed to support both in the lead-up to 1.0 (with two different plugins), but now seem focused on gstreamer-libav only.

videolan.org hosts the git for FFMpeg.

In the Mac and Windows builds, which one is VLC using?

As of this moment (July 5), contribs is using Libav, although historically it has known to flicker between the two.
