VLC does not play avi file

Postby johngrey » 04 Jul 2012 14:41

I have downloaded an .avi file from austrian TV and VLC cannot play it, why?

The point is, that KM Player does play it.....

Why? I am using 2.0.0

Thanks

What are the messages?
Something like: VLC cannot play this file and there is nothing that can be done about it....

"Something like" is too vague, what exactly are the messages ? And also open Tools -> Messages (set Verbosity to 2) before you start the playback and then paste the full resulting log here or on Pastebin.com if it's too long.

Also upload a short sample of a problematic file to either http://streams.videolan.org/upload/ or to MirrorCreator.com or to EmbedUpload.com, so it will upload the file for you to several other hosts, and then post the link to the file here.

I did send a reply, but it seems to be lost?

After watching the movie, i deleted it, as I do not collect movies. So I cannot repeat the procedure to read the exact wording, but it was one sentence only and it said something very similar to what I wrote. Especially the last part which says, "... unfortunately there is nothing you can do about it."

But I remember one thing. When it would not play on VLC, I right-clicked the file and checked properties, and in file-type it said (.avi)(.avi)

It did say twice the (.avi) I tried to find any info what this mans on the net, but could not find anything...
