is there a codec or ??? for qt movies ?

Hello.

So far the only videos I can't play have a qt extension. I believe these are old apple movies from a few years back.

I don't want to install any apple "junk" on my computer.

Is there a way of making VLC play these movies or if not can someone recommend a player ( other than apple's)?
