Strange and Random VLC Skipping Issue?

Postby RedPenguin » 07 May 2012 12:23

I have a PC that has a "RealTek High Definition Audio" integrated sound card.

I am running XP Pro 32-bit 2.0.1 VLC.

After a fresh XP Pro install, VLC will randomly start skipping any audio it plays.

It sounds like an old record player with a very scratched record.

Yet other media players on the system such as XBMC, Media Player Classic, and Flash Player (YouTube & Others) will not experience this random skipping.

I have tried an updated driver vs the one XP installs by default and still no go.

Only thing that ever seems to fix it is a PC reboot.

Yet I'm confused as to what the problem could be that it only affects VLC.

Does Waveout audio output module work any better'?

Negative.

I tried every audio output option in WaveOut and even tried others like DirectX audio output.

Some options seem to minimize the skipping, but it's still there.

Does the issue happen with audio only files?

Ditto. Same configuration as RedPenguin, same problem. I've now deinstalled VLC 2.0.1 and rolled back to 1.1.11. All's well again, and I'll wait for a new release.

Edit: I also noticed that 2.0.1's overall audio quality sounded slightly muffled compared to 1.1.11. It may be related to the above issue, but it lacked both the clarity and definition of the previous version, imo.

Yup, Targon88!! Everything works well with 1.1.11, excellent. I dont know what the issues is but the rollback works for me.

Same problem. I installed 2.0.1 on March 24th, and everything has been fine until today. Now I have frequent skips in both audio and video files (video is smooth, audio skips).

Turned off McAfee real time scanning, no difference.

Obviously something changed... but what?

Update: Just downgraded to 1.1.11, no skipping.

I got exactly the same problems as above.
Sounds started to skip at every 5~ seconds, it was working fine a few days ago.
My video works well with Windows Media Player, Tryed to reboot computer, Change audio output, and re-installed VLC, nothing changed.
Last version is from March, and as said, was working good a few days back, i can't seems to find any logical thinking on this.
Using Windows 7 32 bit.
Tryed to go back with 1.11 but it unfortunately does not read .DIVX :(
Any Hint for help !?

Update: Looked in an other topic which had similar problem, they were talking about overclocking problem, i then remember i changed my CPU setting to 'Auto' mode instead of 'High performance', turned it back to high and it solved the problem, no more sounds skipping problem! Hope it can help also any one with same problem! Thanks
