60FPS playback

Postby Leopardi » 01 May 2012 11:49

Is there any way to make high fps playback smooth for VLC like windows media player?

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/26267902/one.mp4

here for example, COMPLETE FAIL on vlc media player, video should be 100% smooth from beginning to end but VLC player keeps jerking the video as if it can't take more information than 20FPS.

It's pretty smooth for me, even in software mode.

You need either a faster CPU (Core2Duo @ 2.66 GHz at least) or to use GPU hardware acceleration if your graphics card and OS (Vista or better) can handle it.

You can also try another video output module:

pretty smooth isnt enough, it should handle it flawless like WMP, super smooth without stuttering.

I have an AMD Phenom II 1090T Black Edition @ 3.91GHz and HD 7870 2GB, GPU acceleration option doesn't help one bit.

CPU overclocking can cause problems with VLC.

It's not that. Got a whole forum of people who noticed the stuttering playback on VLC, while WMP9 plays it smooth.

WOW... I too noticed the lag!! VLC fails!
I used to think that my 60hz tv and monitors cannot handle fast motion until I play games in 60fps. Then I realized that they aren't bad compare to the video playback on VLC.
My tv is big 52" and my living room is kind of small so it gives me headache sometimes.
I'm too desperated to know how to fix this issue, perhaps some tweak settings on vlc or other alternative software?

I can't remember any other version of VLC that has this intermittent slow frame/lag/audio skipping (out of sync) than does version 2.0.0. More times than not it plays video just fine, but lately I've been experiencing slow intermittent frame rates and the audio is out of sync when individuals are speaking. Its not necessarily happening with just HD Videos, it can be just regular .avi files as well. I kept thinking it was somehow my system until I started doing some searches, which lead me to this forum.

Bump, issue is still with 2.0.2. 60fps playback is impossible with VLC player.

You can confirm the problem with newest BF3 60fps trailer. If you click on streaming the 60fps performance is flawless on the browser, but when you download it and play it on VLC you can see stuttering.

I dunno its not saving the logs. I selected the VLC folder and wrote vlc-log, and clicked save, but nothing happens.

Open Tools -> Messages (set Verbosity to 2) before you start the playback and then paste the full resulting log here or on Pastebin.com if it's too long.

The log was too big for pastebin so I deleted a chunk of those "picture might be displayed late" lines

Anyone know what it is? Plus with 48FPS standard being introduced with The Hobbit this is something that should be fixed and fast.
