VLC opens 2 video windows when playing a specific AVCHD

Postby hyldess » 28 Apr 2012 19:02

HI everyone.

I've taken a look around the forum, yet couldn't find an answer to my problem. I bought a french Blu-ray, and ripped it on my computer so that I could take screen captures of the movie. I've done it a good amount of time already and it's the first time I've hit this particular problem.

I right click the AVCHD and open with VLC, but then 2 videos appears the one I want to screen capture appear in a Direct3d output screen with sound, but another also open in the "classic" window this one without sound. When I want to capture the image on screen, for every capture I make two files are created, one for each video.

I tried going into "tools, preferences, video" and change the output, but no change there.

The problem probably comes from the AVCHD file itself, but I was wondering if it could be something I could tinker with in vlc.

Thank you for any help you can give.

Deactivate video in the video menu -> track and reactivate one track.

The answer provided does work (of course) but I personally still feel like an idiot. First of all, you need to open the video to select one of the tracks and that opens 2 windows and then you can select one, wasting useless time as you do so. More importantly, I see that these double-track videos are using considerably more storage than the old single-tracks, in what appears to be far more than double the old size, so it is not just the count of tracks. Now, I am sure there must be some important reasons why these are getting more prevalent but on my current LCD screen, only 1 year old mind you, I really don't see any difference between the two tracks. Or is it that we should be happy using one window for each eye?? I sure hope not. As far as I am concerned, the real solution to this problem would be to find a tool that splits these files (in my case, they are usually mp4) into separate single track of which I can select whichever I please, if I can find any difference, knowing that the VLC codec information is absolutely identical between the two...
Summary: is there a tool to split the tracks into separate video files? is there an explanation as to what these tracks are??
