Trouble skipping ahead in video

Hi all..quick question...on several of my videos when i try to skip to differant parts i get a blank screen but i do get audio..i think this happens mostly with mp4 videos but maybe others also..

any suggestions??

Please open Tools -> Messages (set Verbosity to 2) before you start the playback and then paste the full resulting log here or on Pastebin.com if it's too long.

Also upload a short sample of a problematic file to either http://streams.videolan.org/upload/ or to MirrorCreator.com or to EmbedUpload.com, so it will upload the file for you to several other hosts, and then post the link to the file here.

too much trouble..i thought there was a quick settings fix..i will just use windows media player for those files that do this...windows media player works fine on the ones that vlc can't play properly..
