No OpenGL hardware found

Postby scottt4 » 11 Apr 2012 19:09

Mac Mini 10.6.8 with Nvidia GeForce 320M

Starting VLC in a terminal:

Nvidia-Sony-mini:~ scott$ /Applications/VLC.app/Contents/MacOS/VLC ; exit;
VLC media player 2.0.1 Twoflower (revision 2.0.1-0-gf432547)
[0x100214d00] main libvlc: Running vlc with the default interface. Use 'cvlc' to use vlc without interface.
Fontconfig error: Cannot load default config file
Fontconfig error: Cannot load default config file
[0x1093ac6f0] vout_macosx vout display error: no OpenGL hardware acceleration found, video output will fail

CUDA is installed on this machine if that makes any difference.

By the way, thank you very much for the continued support for VLC on Mac PPC.

You do not have Quartz Extreme?
please try a 2.0.2 Nightly Build.

I installed 2.0.2 from the nightly builds. It is listed as vlc-2.0.0-i686-20120411-0215.zip, (2.0.0, not 2.0.2.)

I get a similar error:
vout_macosx error: no OpenGL hardware acceleration found. this can lead to slow output and unexpected results

This machine is definitely capable of using Quartz Extreme. It is a Mid 2010 Mac Mini with the Nvidea GeForce 320M. I successfully ran the Chess application which was identified ( on the internet) as a test for Quartz Extreme running. Also as a point of information Plex plays HD material smoothly.

That systems shares the graphics memory with the main memory. I seem to recall hearing others with similar shared graphics having problems as well.

Switching the screen resolution back and forth seems to solve this issue for most affected users. Seems like a certain number of Macs "forgets" about its Quartz Extreme capabilities from time to time.
Note that QE is not available on headless devices accessed through VNC.
