Capable of DVD file extracting?

Postby Osha » 29 Jul 2005 02:08

Hi..I am new to the VLC world. I am a little confused to what exactly this program is capable of. I can get it to play, I have tried setting up the stream output settings. I have also used the wizard, but I dont know whats going wrong.. no luck...

The bottom line is, can VLC extract video from DVDs? Can I select a range to extract of the DVD? is this the same as transcoding?

Thanks much

Confused user.

yes this is transcoding. Set it to output a file (and transcode to a different format if you want it to do that).

although vlc is capable of doing that ... i would suggest that you use a special tool to do so. (VLC isn't really designed to do high quality DVD ripping and transcoding but live streaming and transcoding)
