Now i managed to successfully compile VLC. But the red stripes are still there.
Any suggestion now on tweaking something to see if we could fix the red stripes?
Great!

Can you go to modules/video_output/opengl.c and then add:

Code: Select all

bool supports_fp = supports_multitexture = false;
one line 202 (before * Initialize with default chroma * )

and then recompile?

"supports_fp" is already declared at line 164, so i just added

Code: Select all

supports_fp = supports_multitexture = false;
but unfortunately still red stripes :-(

@ khambrecht : Thanks for the link to the wiki (didn't know about it). "Hacking" (sort of) the 3.1.4 install to incorporate the missing stuff.

Log from another avi file: http://pastebin.com/VGbznGyF
Still using Bicubic scaler, but this time the output is tinted red instead of the red stripes.

minimac [0x0-0x90e90e].org.videolan.vlc[2953]: [0x98d898] swscale filter debug: 640x480 chroma: J422 -> 640x480 chroma: RV32 with scaling using Bicubic (good quality)

seems more normal. So that would mean it is a swscale bug on PPC/G4. Weird.
Do you have the same issue with the snapshot function?

Hmm, it does the same filter chain, so this is probably not a swscale issue, as I thought it was.
Can you do a good screenshots of both?

Upgraded to 2.0 last night. Running Mini Mac G4 PPC with OSX 10.5.8. On playing video get vertical red stripes across player screen plus color is way off - i.e. glowing green eyes - blue/green skin tones. Tried reseting preferences and many other things - nothing works. VLC would also begin to start crashing if I made changes to settings, so I changed back to default. Could find no way to fix the red jail bar effect. Does anyone know where I can find an older version of VLC to download and install after I delete this version?
Sorry for the spelling I am dislex...
I have the same problem, reported as bug. What I don't understand is if something is working why chang it? VLC 1.n.n played AVI files on my PowerBook G4 fine.

Vertical red lines are for YUV420, the square happen on YUV422

I'm having the same problem on a PPC Mac Mini OS 10.5.8 running VLC 2.0.1. This is making VLC unusable for me. Please let me know if I can help resolve this. Looks like there have been bugs filed so I won't do that, but I can run test versions here or recompile as necessary.

I am having the same problem on an iBook G4 running 10.5.8 with VLC 2.0.1. And a PowerMac G4 quicksilver with same software versions, though the audio is working fine. Both have no problems with 1.1.12. I would also like to thank developers for support of PowerPC macs, as it is a shame that I can barely use any newer software with my computers. Anything I can do to help with this issue I will.

I am also having this problem. Downgraded back to v 1.x. However my iPhone app vlc remote now will not work as it has updated and now requires version 2 to work.

Appreciate the VLC development, however to run two updates (Mac/iphone) and now to not be able to use both products is annoying. Hoping for a resolution.....

G4 Mac mini running leopard.

Just to clarify this: we don't support or publish remote apps for Android or iOS. If you encounter problems with any of these, please contact their producers directly.

Concerning this thread topic: our problem at the moment is that we don't have access to a testing device. We got 2 G5s and it's working nicely on both of them. I might be able to arrange something next week, but no promises at this point.

If you have any updated pieces of code i would be happy to give them a try on my G4 Mac mini. Also if i could debug something, please let me know.
