Speed control keys in 1.1.11

Postby Quimbly » 26 Mar 2012 22:35

I notice that if I press the + (plus) key, the speed control maxes out at 1.0x. Why is this?
I can of course speed up by clicking my mouse pointer over the increase speed button, but why doesn't the + key go past 1.0x??

Also, does the new version (2.0?) resolve this problem?

You're playing a local file? For me the speed can go up to 4x with sound.

It should be obvious, but you cannot change the speed of network streams.

Yes, local files of course. As I mentioned, the buttons on the interface work, just not the keyboard.

It should also be mentioned that the minus key works for me fine. However, the + (plus) key always sets the speed to 1.0x, regardless of what the speed was.

This might be a focus problem/bug in the UI. Try to click on the UI first.

Hmm, doesn't seem to be focus related. After clicking on the speed increase button on the UI, I encounter the same issues. Pressing the minus (-) key works fine, but pressing the plus (+) key always just sets speed to 1.0x.

Ok, so I upgraded to version 2.0 and the problem is still there. Pressing the equals (=) key sets speed to 1.0x, but pressing the plus (+) key does nothing. Minus key works as expected.

Maybe it's the keyboard I'm using -- it's on my laptop. It's a combo +/= key.

Pressing the + (plus) key does nothing -- that is, holding shift while pressing the (+/=) key. Maybe you need a full-size keyboard with a dedicated plus (+) key to get that keyboard shortcut to work properly??

It works fine here. I cannot reproduce your problem.

Do note that some keymaps, such as French AZERTY lack a + key (except for the numeric pad). Then you need to select another key in the VLC preferences. = is the most obvious choice.

Of course! Why didn't I just re-map the keys before?! I simply remapped = to be the Faster hot-key. It works great now. Thanks for the suggestion!
