Is there a way to view movies that use the VP61 codec with the VLC?
It looks like this codec is only used for PC's and not Macs

There is not. there is no free and open source implementation of VP61, therefore VLC is not able to play it.

Hmm why do mplayer import the used windows dll for vp codes without any problems under *nix, is it possible to integrate those dll into the source of vlc.
Have any one tryed this at the moment because me and a friend make an workaround to find the way.

There is currently a dll loader being integrated into VLC. however i think it only supports the WMV9 dll so far. Also, we can probably not distribute VLC with this loader, because there are some licensing issues.

Now that in the latest nightly Shoutcast TV Service is included how is the actual situacion regarding to VP61/2 and VP7. Will there be a support or is there a workaround to view these streams with VLC?

Status is unchanged.

However some code was recently on Sourceforge that had a VP61 decoder. This code is most likely being integrated into ffmpeg (which is used by VLC for decoding) into the future.

Note that Macromedia had this project removed from Sourceforge.

Some VP6 (VP62 and VP6F) are readable with the latest VLC stable release (0.8.6).

VLC 0.9.0 should support VP61 and VP60. This is still under testing.

Now, it's been some time. Here I get into conversation, just trying out the VP7 codec for the first time. MPC etc resolves the issue by hooking the (installed) On2 VP7 codec (VFW), thus playback works fine. However, VLC does not. I've read this thread so I do understand the issue with licenses etc. Anyways, I must ask. Is there any way to get VLC to use the (already system-installed) VP7 VFW codec, like other media players do? Or is VLC "locked" to it's internal directshow filters etc..? I'm using the latest version of VLC; also I found the setting "Prefer system plugins over VLC". This must mean someting else though, 'cuz even after checking the option I get an error trying to load the VP7-encoded file.

Bottom-line: VLC (under Windoze) + VP7 = Not possible.

Yes, this is not possible with VLC until someone makes an open-source decoder of VP7 or until someone makes a decoder that makes codec to use dshow codecs inside VLC.
