There is also a delay in sound volume after changing it (when I use OpenGL)... I think I should downgrade to 1.1.11.

Sound volume delay occurs also with Direct2D and Direct3D output (with Direct3D video doesn't work properly)... Are there settings I can change to avoid it? I move to VLC 1.1.11.

Is it going to be fixed in 2.0.1?

ffmpeg threads and audio resampling CPU usage issues will be fixed in VLC 2.0.1, so if your playback issues are related to those, then it will be fixed.

Just to add my 5cents.
I've had issues with vlc 2.0 and HD1080p videos.
Tried with videos in wmv and mov containers, same results, it would play 1 frame per minute while the sound played ok.
Other players like WMP and MPC-X64 had no issues and played the videos perfectly.
Tried all suggested fixes in this and some other posts (threads, caching, GPU acceleration on/off, GDI) with no luck, nothing helped.
Removed vlc 2.0.0 and installed 1.1.11 - everything plays smoothly -> it's not my system, codecs or drivers.

System:
Athlon X2 4200+
4GB DDR2@800Mhz
Nvidia G240GT 512MB - 296 drivers
Win7 SP1 X64

Hope you guys get this fixed soon, until then I'll stay with 1.1.11

Did you test VLC 2.0.1?

Just installed and tested it ...
Same issues, played around with all settings (gpu acceleration, built in codecs for wmv, threads and file-caching for ffmpeg, no luck.
I did a clean install of vlc 2.0.1, wiping settings and cache.
The video just freezes on me, cpu usage for vlc around 5%, I can hear the sound tho, if I try to move the seek slider it freezes completely.
VLC 1.1.11 can play the vids just fine and smooth, seek is working perfectly too, mpc and wmp (both 32 and 64 versions) play the samples fine too.
I'll try to find some HD samples in other containers, will report with results.

EDIT: it seems that the 6 videos I've got have problems with VLC 2.0.X itself, although they play fine in 1.1.11 and other players (weird)
I just downloaded http://www.digital-digest.com/movies/Th ... ailer.html (MP4 container 1080p H264 - MPEG4 part10 avc1codec) it plays but the framerate is too low ,cpu usage aroud 11%, seek is working ok.After playing the whole clip the statistics are: decoded: 3215 blocks, displayed: 1711 frames, lost: 1879 frames!
Same for http://download.microsoft.com/download/ ... 3_1080.exe (WMV 1080P WMV9) , plays fine in 2.0.1, seek is working ok.
Marvels The Avengers Trailer HD 1080p.mov - (1080p mov H264 - MPEG4 part10 avc1) - can't play in 2.0.1.
EDIT: The files I have that don't play are WMV9 and H264 mov.
When I try to play the videos that don't play it shows the first frame and the video just hangs there, the sound goes ok, CPU usage +-8%, if I try seeking vlc hangs, no way to close it, I can only kill it from task manager.
This is strange :D

Thank for your great work guys, keep ip up!

This log is from Marvels The Avengers Trailer HD 1080p.mov mov 1080p H264 MPEG4 AVC part10 (avc1)

Code: Select all

-- logger module started -- avcodec: obtained IDirect3DDeviceManager9 avcodec: DXVA2CreateVideoService Success! avcodec: Using DXVA2 (NVIDIA GeForce GT 240, vendor 4318(NVIDIA), device 3235, revision 162) for hardware decoding. avcodec error: more than 5 seconds of late video -> dropping frame (computer too slow ?) avcodec error: more than 5 seconds of late video -> dropping frame (computer too slow ?) [h264 @ 06915760] Failed to begin frame [h264 @ 06915760] hardware accelerator failed to decode picture [h264 @ 06915760] Failed to begin frame [h264 @ 06915760] hardware accelerator failed to decode picture
This is realy weird it's complaining about slow system while it's not using more than 12% cpu, vlc 1.1.11 with hardware decoding on has no problems with it, MPC with DXVA on has no roblems with it ( cpu usage 5%! max). Toggling "use GPU accelerated decoding" on and off has no effect.

What verbosity level do you need for the logs?
sorry for the late answer been busy at work :S
I can provide any data you need just ask

edit: http://pastebin.com/K2qkrRUp verbosity 3 log

Let me know if you need logs for any other container type

Same happens with vlc-2.1.0-git-20120319-0403-win64
I work as sysadmin and I have access to some hardware, tomorrow if I have time I'll test the same clips on different machines and report.

Deactivate GPU decoding and try to force 2 threads only in preferences.

VLC 2.0.1 decodes HD video, but maximizing the video causes massive slowdown, framerate skip as long as new transparent menu and/or mouse are on screen. Attempting to swap the video back into windowed mode does not resolve the issue once it has occurred, often VLC hangs, needs to be hard stopped via task manager.

When decoding HD video in windowed mode, jaggies and tearing occur.

VLC 1.1.1 never had this issue. Downgrading to last working version.

System specs:

CPU: AMD Athalon 3200+
RAM: 2GB (2 GHz)
GPU: ATI Radeon 9800 Pro (128 MB)
OS: Windows XP

I know these are not top of the line specs, but this is my media PC hooked up to my TV in the living room, and it's been fine for decoding everything incl BluRay and HD AVI files...

EDIT: Using the proposed solution "Windows GDI video output" resolves the slowdown and framerate issues, but output is darkened and tearing / jaggies still occur.

EDIT 2: Tried other suggested fixed in thread, none have any appreciable effect (excepting "Windows GDI video output" solution, see above).

I finally got it to work, the solution was:

preferences->video->output->Direct2D video output
every HD video works fine in this mode, even HD IPTV working fine, like it was with 1.1.x.
It lags as hell in default and opengl, doesn't work in others
No changes were made to the system, same drivers, same codec pack (k-lite).

Which is supposed to be the default mode for 2.x.x??

gpu acceleration>on
accelerated video output(overlay)>on
threads>0 (default)

vlc-2.1.0-git-20120325-0404-win64

What is your OS? Because Direct2d is the slowest one.

Solved for me using the latest NVIDIA driver (306.96), using VLC 2.0.4 on Windows 7 64-bit.
