Audio Stutter with VLC

Postby abrogard » 22 Mar 2012 11:21

After years of problem free use I started to get audio stutter with VLC.

I think it began after downloading and installing a newer version, but I'm not sure.

What I do know is that going back to any previous version doesn't seem to help.

And I do know that it does not happen with any other audio player. Media Player Classic. Windows Media Player. FLV Player. Sothink Flv player. Nero Showtime. Riva. I can't find anything else that does it.

So please: what is it that VLC does that nothing else does? Something that it changes or something that it installs.
Something that once changed or installed stays there in the system regardless of uninstalls/reinstalls of VLC?

Surely the developers and aficionados of the prog would be fully aware of such a feature - probably/possibly proud of it - some method, some thing it does that nothing else does, some clever trick unique to VLC.

It is annoying the hell out of me. I really want to use VLC. It has been my habit for years.

I'm on an ASUS A8nSLI board with an Athlon 64 cpu and using a radeon x800gt card - but there's no video hassle at all.

Can you share the logs?

If you want an answer to your question, just be specific and precise. Don't use Private Messages.

Sorry about the delay.

It's all okay now, it seems. I went to find the logs and couldn't. Googled and went back to open a log file ('messages type 2') and somewhere, somehow, I got a prompt about upgrading VLC and I accepted.

When it installed there was no problem.

Well, just one - after playing two files perfectly it then wouldn't open the video. Played the sound perfectly (that's what was stuttering before) but wouldn't show any video: just a black screen).

But since rebooting my machine that hasn't happened again. So I don't think it is worth sending you the logs of this new install - that black screen thing might never recur.

So thanks for your help and I'm off to watch a movie on VLC.

If it starts acting funny again I'll do a bit of trouble-shooting/checking - i.e. remove all possibly conflicting progs - and keep logs and if I can't fix it I'll provide the logs if I have to query again.

Thanks for the help.

regards,

ab
