Is there a way to auto-set the equilizer

For questions and discussion that is NOT (I repeat NOT) specific to a certain Operating System.

Is there a way to auto-set the equilizer

There are several options for when you bring up VLC to automatically have a setting in place before you play a file, for example the volume. So my question is: Is there a way to set VLC so that every time I bring it up, the equalizer will already be set to headphones?

For me on the Mac side at least, using 2.0 or later the last EQ setting sticks through a restart of VLC just fine.
