Videolan crashes Windows XP Pro after viewing movies?

Hi People,,,

I used a earlier version of videolan and it worked fine on an older computer but i got a new computer and ive started having problems now, I can view films fine but after i finnish viewing them and close videolan it seems to leave the the process still running and its using up all my CPU so i cant do anything else but when i try to end the videolan process my computer freezes needing a reboot,it happens even when i try to shutdown the computer it won't shutdown because that process is still running then when i end it it freezes again.

This happens everytime i run VLC to watch or preview a movie and i have just formatted my HD and reinstalled Windows XP pro with VLC the only program i have installed so far.Any suggestions on how to fix this appreciated. Thanx

try to get some error messages logged.

run vlc with logging on(there's this shortcut for skinned mode)..

can you provide any other info? messages from the operating system? Any other clues?

run:
vlc --extraintf logger -v 2

or click:
[view] ->

To help you, we need messages, to completely understand what your problems is.
To fix this, please be sure before you start the playback to:

1. Open: Tools -> Messages.
2. Set Verbosity to 2
3. Start playback to reproduce your issue
4. Save text in a file or copy into clipboard
5. Then paste the full resulting log here between [​code]and[​/code] (or use Pastebin.com if it's too long)

Also don't forget to name your Operating System and provide the VLC media player version.

(should use higher verbose level)

maybe specify the logfile and location:
[settings] -> [preferences] -> [interface] -> [control interfaces] -> [logging]

and..

get the verbosity up to 2:
[settings] -> [preferences] -> [interface] -> [general] -> "verbosity" = 2

I have a possibly related CPU issue;

If I start vlc in VLM mode from my VB.NET application using

Me.VOD_ProcessID = Shell("c:\progra~1\videolan\vlc\vlc --intf telnet", AppWinStyle.Hide, False, 0)

,then do nothing else but exit the application without playing any files, the vlc process will jump to 100%CPU and seize things until I manually kill it.

It will seize roughly 70% of the time above scenario.

I have no other clues to why this could be doing this, No error messages from the OS or from VLC? I have searched for an answer for days to no avail,,,,

I will check the verbose log later and i will report back with any findings,,,Thanks again!

Often this is caused by video hardware overlay problems:

* If it is only one video then use the "Settings" menu, option "Extended GUI" and try to increase the Gamma value in the "Video" tab.
* Check your video card settings and turn off hardware video overlay. If the videos now play with proper lighting, then deinstalling and reinstalling the video drivers might help.
