"VLC 2.0.0" Computer Resources

Postby intello » 13 Mar 2012 14:26

Hello

Does "VLC 2.0.0" use more computer resources than "VLC 1.1.11" in their respective default, out-of-the-box settings ?

Thank You

Your question is too vague.

Audio resampling uses more CPU time in new version, but it should be fixed in VLC 2.0.1

Issue:

Using "VLC 1.1.11 The Luggage", video files would play fluently with the sole exception of 720p mkv files. Indeed, 720p mkv files would raise CPU usage time of the "vlc.exe" process to the vicinity of 90 percent, according to "Windows Task Manager".

Using "VLC 2.0.0 Twoflower", playback is not fluent with any kind of video file. CPU usage is high with any kind of video file.

In each version, these observations were made using the default (out-of-the-box) settings.

I do not use VLC media player to listen to music files.

Why isn't "VLC 2.0.0 Twoflower" playing my videos as fluently as "VLC 1.1.11 The Luggage" ?

Thank You

I also have this problem, and have tried the 2.0.1 nightly builds and its still there, has the audio fix not gone in yet or is there another problem?

If you disable audio via Audio -> Audio track -> Disable, and CPU usage drops dramatically, then it is the resampling issue. If the CPU usage doesn't drop, it is some other issue.

Disabling audio does not drop "VLC 2.0.0" CPU usage dramatically.

However, moving the mouse around the "VLC 2.0.0" native skin does use noticeable CPU time, even in a paused video. In particular when moving the mouse through the menu options. CPU increases to a lesser extent when the seeker or slide either appears or fades away. These issues weren't present in "VLC 1.1.11".

Is there a skin that uses less computer resources ?

You can try skins2.
