VLC Error: Has it do do with --> wxwindows ??

Postby Finalbrain » 19 Nov 2004 17:39

Hi, i have big Problem to get VCL 0.8.1 work under Suse 9.1.
I am an absolute newbie under Linux, so I do not know whats the error :(

I have it installed in this way.

(Searched 2 hours in the Internet)
Downloaded the following RPM-Packages:

a52dec-0.7.4-3.pm.0.i686.rpm libdvdplay-1.0.1-147.i586.rpm
alsa-1.0.6-0.pm.0.i586.rpm libffmpeg0-0.4.9-1.pm.pre1.i686.rpm
faad2-2.0-0.pm.3.i686.rpm libmpeg2-0.4.0b-21.pm.1.i686.rpm
lame-3.96.1-pm.1.i686.rpm libtheora-0.9_1.0alpha3-0.pm.0.i686.rpm
libcddb-0.9.6-0.pm.0.i686.rpm speex-1.1.6-0.pm.0.i686.rpm
libcdio-0.70-0.pm.0.i686.rpm
libdvbpsi3-0.1.4-0.pm.3.i586.rpm wx-base-2.5.2-1.i386.rpm
libdvdcss-1.2.8-1.i686.rpm wx-gtk2-2.5.2-1.i386.rpm
libdvdnav-0.1.10-0.pm.0.i686.rpm xosd-2.2.5-42.i586.rpm

I installed them in the right Order with YAST and at last I installed

vlc-0.8.1-0.pm.3.i686.rpm

YAST says, that all is OK, and that there are no more dependencies.

Now if I run vlc, the application seems to work. But i cannot
play AVI-Files (Divx) for example. a black window pushed up and after a few seconds it leaves. If I wqant to play .asf files, i can only hear the sound.
If i want gto go to preferences, nothing happens...i cannot reach the preferences menue!

So I startet VCL -vvvv and I went once again to the prefernces-Button.
Here the debug-Infos

You will have to download the source-code of vlc, so you can use the configure-script to build vlc yourself.

Get the source here: http://download.videolan.org/pub/vlc/0. ... .1.tar.bz2

Untar it with the following commands (console):

Code: Select all

tar -xvjf vlc-0.8.1.tar.bz2
cd to the directory containing the source-tree:

Code: Select all

cd vlc-0.8.1/
You should remove the old installation with 'yast' first! (not the dependencies)

Use the ./configure script to configure for your environment, take a look at the help of the script:

Code: Select all

./configure --help
The important switches are:
  • --enable-wxwindows
    --with-wx-config-path=
Find out, where your wx-config sits:

Code: Select all

find /usr -name 'wx-config'
For me it's:

Code: Select all

/usr/bin/wx-config
Configure for building vlc:

Code: Select all

./configure --enable-wxwindows --with-wx-config-path=/usr/bin/wx-config
Watch the output carefully. No errors? You should see something like:

Code: Select all

vlc aliases : svlc wxvlc
ath the end, and that you can do a 'make' now.

Okay, then make vlc:

Code: Select all

make
You will see a lot of output. Take a cup of tee or something and wait.
Hopefully everything is fine now, no errors, then install it. For that you should use superuser (su) rights:

Code: Select all

su
You will then have to type your root password. After that type:

Code: Select all

make install
Hope this works!

still the skins error

Postby wanna_vlc » 20 Jan 2005 01:42

hi list

I'm using SuSE 9.1 and have still the same error a la:

Code: Select all

[00000405] main dialogs provider error: no dialogs provider module matched "any" [00000402] skins2 interface error: No suitable dialogs provider found [00000402] skins2 interface: skin: VLC OSX Interface author: BigBen
I tried everything :(

1. installed rpm's:
wxGTK-devel-2.4.2.4-138
wxGTK-2.4.2.4-138
wxGTK-gl-2.4.2.4-138

2. downloaded the vlc 0.8.1 code, configured it like:

Code: Select all

./configure --enable-wxwindows --with-wx-config-path=/usr/bin/wx-config
3. no errors while configuring and compiling, furthermore I can see following output at end of the configure step:

vlc aliases : svlc wxvlc

4. While making I can clearly see that it compiles wx..dialog classes. But the wx module is not produced:

Code: Select all

./vlc -l | grep wx

reports there is noting.

Any help is highly appreciated. I'm desperate...

best regards
harald

harald,

did you ever get an answer, or find the solution. i'm getting pretty frustrated seeing the same issue you did.

i'd appreciate it if you'd let me know if you came up with a solution.

thanks.

Dude this is getting annoying. don't reactivate all those old threads please.

vlc --reset-plugins-cache

that was kinda my point. there are literally hundreds of complaints about this issue and no resolutions. it should be annoying...

anyway, i think we've focused it in on one thread under the linux-related forum, so i'll cease and desist elsewhere.

It should not be annoying. Making it annoying, will ensure that Developers get tired of users REALLY fast and then stop developing for us. If you want TRUE support go BUY a player.
