Audio control volume lag.

Postby Kiingy » 22 Feb 2012 12:23

Heya.

Since switching to 2.0, the volume control has some serious lag.
When adjusting volume, it wont actually increase/decrease until 1-5 seconds after, while its a short time it is incredibly annoying.

Have you change caching options at any point?

Does it help if you reset VLC settings by removing %appdata%\vlc folder?

I'm having the same issue. The lag between setting the volume slider and hearing the change is 1 to 2 seconds.

Stopping, removing the %appdata%\vlc folder, and restarting does not help.

Using vlc 2.0.0, Win7 x64 sp1, playing local avi files.

Yeah, same thing here. Its annoying to get the wanted volume when its not realtime.

Next guess would be, that this is related to new resampler in VLC. Does it help if you rename libsamplerate_plugin.dll to libsamplerate_plugin.dll2 and libspeex_resampler_plugin.dll to libspeex_resampler_plugin.dll2 ?

I have this issue too playing each kind of file (MP4, WMV and etc.). VLC 2.0, Win7 x64 SP1. No suggestion here solved it. Moving back to 1.1.11.

Do you have issues with audio only files? Or only with video files?

Same issue under mac on 10.7 and 10.8, I did change caching once upon a time in v. 1 so I erased all prefs and still have the ~1 sec lag with volume control. Also tried changing caching to low and high latency still getting lag.

I know this is win forum but figured since its same problem I'd report in here and watch the thread. Thx for any advice!

Same here. None of the above suggestions have made a difference. Rolling back until a solution is found.

Yep, lag, use the mouse, scroll, anything to change the Volume in VLC takes 1-3 seconds to catch up to the desired Volume level you chose to use, far from real time, you literally need to wait until you can tell weather it's too loud or not.

Is it going to be fixed in 2.0.1?

There are a few tickets in trac about this. The lag is more noticeable in VLC 2 because the buffer sizes were increased it appears. It's up to each audio output module to address this.

To that end, I have provided a patch for OS X and CoreAudio, but it needs to be tested: https://trac.videolan.org/vlc/ticket/5605#comment:7

http://ossproject-mediaplayer.blogspot. ... delay.html

This solution worked fine for me with 2.x. I switched it to the "win32 waveOut extension output" under Audio options for output and volume changing is instant again.

Although it does seem a little quieter... I think the adjustment scale is different... like linear vs logarithmic or something... but either way I'm happy that it's back to instant changing again. :)

Well thank you sir, that worked fine.

EDIT:
NO, that just causes other weird audio issues. Back to the drawing board.
