Media Title displayed is filename, not actual embedded title

Postby Landozelig » 26 Feb 2012 20:28

In VLC 2.0.0, when I play a .mkv file, the title that shows up is just the filename of the .mkv file. It ignores the actual embedded title that I put in with mkvmerge.

The typical behavior in VLC 1.1.11 was to display an embedded .mkv title if one existed, otherwise it would display the filename. It seems to not be checking the embedded title at all in VLC 2.0.0

I know it's a small problem in the scope of a new release, and I've had no other problems with 2.0.0 - I love it! Keep up the good work and thanks.

Does it show in the status bar (view menu)?

No, the filename also shows in the window titlebar as well as the status bar.

It really is like it's not seeing the embedded title and defaulting to the filename.

I should add that it's also the filename and not embedded name that shows up in the playlist (ctrl+l).

I normally drag a bunch of files into VLC and then look at the playlist to make sure I've titled everything correctly.

So, the embedded name shows nowhere? If so, please share a file.

I can confirm the issue and this is a regression.
You should create a ticket on the VLC Trac with a link to a non working file.

this is a critical bug.

my playlist should show the filename not some weird embedded tag or something. Please fix this asap and email us so we can use vlc again since the playlist usability is now broken for everyone.

this is a critical bug.
No according to the VLC criteria, so don't trac it as one

Code: Select all

blocker Blocker for development. E.g. build breakage on most platforms, systematic crash at startup or when playing any file input. critical Blocker for releasing. E.g. security issue, crash in most basic and common use cases (i.e. more than 50% of user base), crash at exit. major Basic feature not working. E.g. inputs other than file not working, file format or codec not rendered. normal Expert feature not working. E.g. stream output problem, specific configuration option. Feature requests. minor Problem that can be worked around easily or is really unimportant. trivial Typing error. Self-explanatory bugfixes. Compiler warnings with no other consequences.
