Change or Add "My Videos" folder

Postby jyllish » 22 Feb 2012 02:30

Hi,

This is kind of a nitpicky question (2.0 is great!)...

I keep all of my video files on an external hard drive. I would love to be able to add it to the sidebar, or re-route the "My Videos" folder to point to it. Is there a way to do this?

Thanks!

I would like to have the ability to change the "My Videos" folder, too. Is this a feature that could be added at a later date, or is there a fundamental reason why this could never happen?

Thanks in advance.

Currently "My Videos" folder is simply a representation of the "Movies" folder in your home directory. Aliases aren't followed.

I have opened a ticket, but it will depend on available developer time and interest for implementation :

Providing logs, messages, configuration info (VLC, OS, Hardware) and a clear explanation of the issue always helps the problem solvers help you, even if they don't end up solving the issue. Just think what you would need if you were solving someone else's problem. Additional: Always looking for eager and capable MacOS X developers to join the VLC team - for more information see here.

Videolan doesn't follow "aliases" (drag'n drop links), but it does follow symbolic links created on the command line. So something like:

ln -s /Volumes/MyExternalDisk/Videos /Users/yourname/Movies/extVideos

should at least allow to see the folders inside a subfolder of "My Videos". I am not sure how symbolic links behave with external harddisks (that might not be present), but I am doin this with a music folder inside my Google Drive folder, and it works.

Best
