missing 'x-vlc-plugin 'for mozilla i Windows 7

Postby rshetty00 » 23 Feb 2012 04:13

Trying to embed/play video from firefox browser page.
Keep getting "missing application/x-vlc-plugin"

Read all forums and docs relating to this and installed firefox 10.0.2 and various versions of VLC including latest.
Tried with both <embed> and <object> tags as discussed in forums
viewtopic.php?f=16&t=91616

I don't see ...mozilla firefox\plugin directory in windows.
Appreciate suggestions about how to get this plugin installed under windows.

No. I see others but not VLC (adobe, quicktime and so on).

In fact, vlc plugin doesn't show up in any of the browsers (IE9, Firefox, Safari) even though I have installed / re-installed VLC few times (and I even reinstalled Firefox 10.0.2!)

Do you find any references to npvlc.dll from registry?

And those references point to the right place? (e.g. not to c:\temp)

Yes.

Finally, resolved it myself after quite a workout...including Windows UAC/ACL issues, uninstalling and re-installing both VLC and Firefox etc etc!

But I'm struggling with MAC - simply not sure how to get this plugin working! I've latest 2.1 code which I compiled using prebuilt libs.
But the plugin download available for Mac is only 1.0.5. I downloaded this (I've Mac 10.7.3 Intel 64 bit) and quit both Safari and Mozilla. Installed the .dmg pkg. Safari recognizes the plugin (but doesn't play using VLC which works fine in Windows!) and Firefox don't. Unable to find "Mozilla" directory.
Appreciate help!

configure: error: Please install the Mozilla development tools, required headers were not found.

Not sure what is needed here (installed SeaMonkey and so on as well) as VLC was successfully packaged earlier.

Appreciate suggestions.

Sorry, the forum won't let me create a new topic saying "too soon"!
