Cannot click on buttons / GUI doesn't respond

Postby Sukari » 29 Aug 2011 23:44

Since the last update of VLC I have a problem with the menu and with all the play/pause/stop etc. buttons in VLC. Whenever I click on them they don't respond at all. Sometimes they do respond once when I minimize or start a new instance of VLC but after that they stop responding again. Also, I cannot double click on the title bar to minimize or maximize the program, I was able to do that before I had this issue. I only have this issue in VLC, other programs work just fine. I am able to control VLC by using keyboard shortcuts.

I have searched the forums and saw this issue appearing a few times for people who have a wacom tablet. I however don't have a tablet at all. I only use the touchpad on my HP laptop and sometimes a wireless logitech mouse.

I have tried a few things to fix it. I have resetted my preferences etc. When that didn't work I completely uninstalled VLC, removed all temporary files etc. from my system, rebooted and reinstalled VLC. When that didn't work I went to the same process but this time installed an older version of VLC. It still gives the same issues however.

At the moment I use VLC 1.1.11 but I have also tried 1.1.10. My OS is Windows 7 64 bits.

I hope I have provided enough information. Are there any other things that I can try? Or any suggestions about what the issue can be here?

Do you have a wacom tablet?

I have already answered that question in my initial post.

oops, sorry...

Well, try to wipe out %appdata%/vlc folder and restart VLC.

No problem :-)

Your solution didn't work either. However, I had some more time today to figure out the issue and I have solved it. I don't know exactly how to keep it from coming back however. Since other people only have the problem with wacom tablets I figured the problem probably had something to do with my wireless mouse or keyboard. I went to device manager and manually uninstalled all entries involving my wireless mouse/keyboard set from Logitech (including all software/drivers etc.). After that I rebooted and it worked.

I plugged my mouse/keyboard back in and it still works, however, my computer now sees my keyboard and mouse as standard HID compliant devices and not as Logitech devices. They work so it's no problem at the moment but I will check later this week if the problem reappears when I install the Logitech software.

If the problem reappears, do I need to file a bug report?

Maybe, but it will be very hard to reproduce and fix

I understand. Well, I will at least try to reproduce the error myself and maybe find a setting within the Logitech software that fixes it and post it here so that others who experience this issue can solve it.

I'm having the same issue as the OP

Has there been an official fix for this or does someone know how to fix this issue?

If you use Wacom tablet, then switching between mouse/pen mode should help. If not, then you could try skins2 interface.
