Foreign Subtitles

Postby pvpkiller » 20 Feb 2012 14:56

I have a .srt file, with Sinhala subtitles. When I use the .srt file, it shows the subtitles as boxes. I installed Sinhala fonts on my computer, and if I open the .srt file on notepad, I can see the letters in Sinhala. How do I fix it? If its not fixable, what other media players will allow me to use the Sinhala subtitles?

You can force another Font in the preferences.

Do you set suitable default encoding setting and font setting in the preferences?
Default value of font setting is arial, and it doesn't contain Sinhala glyphs.

EDIT:
Oops, already JB answered :D

Ye, I changed the default font setting to a Sinhala font, though I am not too sure which encoding to use. I chose universal, but its still boxes. I tried all the encoding options, nothing is working. Any ideas?

So, can you check message and paste it here?
Tool -> message -> level 2(debug) , filter: freetype

I want to know the following:
freetype debug: Using XXXX as font from file C:\Windows\Fonts\XXXX.ttf

And please upload the .srt file. (only srt, no need the video file)

Well, on my environment, I can see properly Sinhala subtitles using LKLUG Sinhala Unicode Font.

Screenshot (it says Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka in Sinhala):
