Bluray Playback - Need Setup Instructions Win7

Postby dessert1st » 17 Feb 2012 17:48

Hello,

Could someone please post detailed instructions for how to setup Bluray playback using VLC 2.0 RC1.

I have already installed VLC 2.0 RC1 and it is working fine for audio and standard DVD playback. I have also downloaded and extracted libbluray and libaacs, but need instructions on how to patch those in.

Please note that I am not a programmer, so need very explicit instructions. A description of what the steps do would be helpful too.

I think others would be interested in this as well, as after much searching I could not find this documented anywhere.

I am running Windows 7, SP1 with all current updates.

Thanks in advance.

I tried those instructions, doesn't work yet. Here's the error message:

Blu-Ray error:
Your system AACS decoding library does not work. Missing keys?
Your input can't be opened:
VLC is unable to open the MRL 'bluray:///G:\'. Check the log for details.

Thanks.

It requires update that isn't released.

A month ago I, like many others, downloaded V2 on Windows and found that it did not work for blu ray. We followed the directions given here, extremely cryptic that they are for most of us. Still no good. Now 2.01 is out, same results. Now I've tried to dig further. For instance, I looked inside the keydb.cfg file I downloaded and copied where directed, and it was an unformatted gibberish. I eventually realized it had been damaged during download, and I've now reformatted it as follows;

Now keep in mind that this is in Win 7n (32 bit), not any UNIX or LINUX version. I've no idea if line feeds or the like need to be added or removed. All I know is I get the same errors reported above;

So, like so many others, it would really be nice if someone could post an explanation and perhaps even plain english instructions on how to handle this. Note that I'm not a UNIX guru, but I've been working with and on computers for 40 years, but find much of what is posted here to be something just above jibberish. I'm not trying to be nasty, but a few more carefully chosen words once in a while can really help. And yes, I do understand this is a volunteer project, and do really appreciate it.

There are many Blu-ray discs that won't open. In your case the blu-ray module fails at opening of that disc.

Found this over in the MAC forums:

Re: VLC 2.0 AND Blu Ray. What Do I need?

Postby voidus83 » Tue Feb 28, 2012 6:31 pm
Took me a minute to figure this out for windows 7. Here you'll need to follow the same steps as in the above URL but the KEYDB.cfg should go in an AACS folder here: Users\username\AppData\Roaming\

The folder username being stand in for your actual username.

I can confirm this working with vlc 2.0 on win7 64bit professional.

Just got it to work in Windows 7.

1. Download the aacs file and the keys file linked here: http://vlc-aacs.whoknowsmy.name/

2. Create new folder named Aacs in location c:/Users/YOURUSERNAME/AppData/Roaming

3. Paste KEYDB.cfg the folder you created c:/Users/YOURUSERNAME/AppData/Roaming/Aacs

4. Paste libaacs.dll in location c:/Program Files/VideoLAN/VLC

I found that I was still getting an error when trying to play Tron Blu-Ray. The error indicated that menus were not supported. So the final step to allow me to play this movie was to select No Disc Menus from the Play menu.

Note: Windows 7 64-bit may install VLC to a different Program Files location (perhaps the x86 folder, I do not have 64-bit version). The libaacs.dll needs to go in the same location as the dll files for VLC from the original install.

Hope this helps.

I wonder if the error message could be narrowed down a bit. In my case i have a bluray that was encrypted with a newer processing key then is publicly known. And the error is vague about whats wrong.

Code: Select all

Blu-Ray error: Your system AACS decoding library does not work. Missing keys? Your input can't be opened: VLC is unable to open the MRL 'bluray:///E:/'. Check the log for details.
It should be possible to detect the processing key required. In my case the disc is encrypted with MBK v26 the version is stored in MKB_RW.inf at offset 0x0b. If libaacs had a crc of known keys it could compare keys in KEYDB.cfg and inform the user what key is missing. something like:

KEYDB.cfg is missing processing key MBK v26. OR Bluray disc is encrypted with unknown processing key MBK v26 update KEYDB.cfg.
