Subtitle mayhem

Postby Shinsayaken » 14 Feb 2012 06:38

I'm trying to watch a video, but the subtitles are horribly out of sync. I hear sound, then ten seconds later subtitles show up. I tried adjusting the subtitle speed with minimal success. If I enter a +5 on the subtitles, I now have to wait 15 seconds. Logically I concluded that I would have to enter a negative number. This is where the problem arose. If I enter anything greater then a -2, the subtitles don't show up at all. If I enter something less then a -2, the subtitle merely flashes for about half a second before disappearing, The further I get away from synchronization the fewer problems, but the closer I get the more? It almost seems like there is something that is clearing the subtitles before it even displays them.

I don't have a solution to the described issue, but perhaps a work-around?

What format are the subtitles? Sub, SRT, something else?
Are the subs stored inside the container or as a separate file?
If in a separate file, are you certain that the subs are matched to the video file? Often, different countries get different length movies.

There are subtitle tools to change the times inside SRT files, if that's what you are working with. Google for "srt tools" or "subtitle tools" to find some options.

Sub/idx files. The subs are stored as a seperate file. No I'm not sure they are matched to the video file, but it's the only one I can find. I'll try looking at some tools to see if it helps though. Thanls
