Setting up Hauppauge Nova TD USB 2.0

Postby funkyfeet » 02 Feb 2012 11:39

I'm running Windows XP Pro and have a Hauppauge Nova TD USB stick. I want to use VLC to watch TV so that I use VLC for everything I view on the PC.
The problem is my TV tuner doesn't show up as a capture device in Direct show. Should I be using the DVB direct show capture mode?

I am a real newbie with VLC so go easy on me!!

Yes, you use DVB direct show for DVB devices.

OK I've tried that but it doesn't seem to have a dropdown box to choose my device. Is there a tutorial for this?

the error I get using DVB-S is:
VLC is unable to open the MRL 'dvb-s://frequency=0'. Check the log for details.

You can see the messages if you open Tools -> Messages (set Verbosity to 2)

And AFAIK there isn't a channel scanner in VLC, so you have to input the frequencies manually if you want to open the mux.

Easiest thing is to create a playlist which has all the channels/muxes in it. Most people use VLC DVB support only for capture/streaming so VLC isn't usability wise the best DVB watching software.
